IgE testing is helpful in diagnosing specific food allergies that present with significant symptoms including rashes, wheezing, throat closing, lip swelling and even life-threatening anaphylaxis.
IgE mediated food allergies that are most common include allergies to eggs, milk, peanuts, tree nuts, soy and wheat. These type of IgE mediated food allergies usually present in early childhood, though some can present in adulthood.
