High-sensitivity CRP

Description

High sensitivity C-reactive protein (hs-CRP) is an inflammatory biomarker.  Most CRP is produced by the liver with additional production coming from fat cells and the cells that line the insides of blood vessels.  Even at low levels, it is an excellent indicator of both acute and chronic inflammation in the body.

A high sensitivity test (hs-CRP) accurately detects lower concentrations of the CRP (it is more sensitive), which makes it more useful in predicting a person’s risk for disease.  Studies show that people who are at highest risk for developing chronic disease have higher levels of hs-CRP.
