Description
Adiponectin is a hormone produced by fat cells. Unlike leptin, adiponectin levels decrease as body fat increases. Adiponectin has anti-inflammatory effects and higher levels are desirable. Some studies show that low adiponectin levels may be an independent risk factor for type 2 diabetes.
