Description
Uric acid can become elevated when the body is unable to adequately excrete it from the body. A high level of uric acid in the blood is called hyperuricemia. Hyperuricemia creates an inflammatory state and is an independent marker for increased risk of heart disease.
Some individuals who possess elevated uric acid levels are at an increased risk of developing gout (a form of arthritis that occurs when too much uric acid builds up in the joint spaces).
